Legal, Governance, Risk and Compliance Leader
Ex-NEOM, GE Power
Spain
Mathieu Savaris is a legal, governance, risk and compliance leader with more than 30 years of experience across the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. He builds and leads these functions in energy, infrastructure, industrials, real estate and large-scale development.
He spent nearly two decades at GE, serving as General Counsel for GE Power Western Europe, Energy Connections EMEA and Power Generation Services globally. He led teams of more than 100 professionals.
Most recently, he served as General Counsel and Head of Governance, Risk and Compliance for Magna, NEOM’s 406 square kilometre coastal region spanning hotels, residences, marinas and core infrastructure. He built the legal and GRC function from day one, covering delegation of authority, approval frameworks, board and committee reporting, enterprise risk and compliance.
At Dentons Nextlaw, he built commercial and risk systems, advised Britishvolt on its lithium-ion gigaplant project and Jardines on its UK legal and compliance operations.
He currently works as a fractional AI Legal Expert with a San Francisco company, training and evaluating frontier AI models on legal reasoning. The work gives him first-hand exposure to how AI is changing legal operations and the capabilities required of legal teams. He believes AI will require General Counsels to redesign the legal operating model before the talent model, with judgment remaining central to senior legal work.
He is admitted in England and Wales (Middle Temple), Québec (non-practising), Spain and Greece, and works in six languages. He holds law degrees from McGill, Democritus and Paris Panthéon-Assas, the FT Board Director Diploma (2026), and board qualifications from Harvard Business School, IESE and WHU. He was named to the GC Powerlist Middle East 2024 and is based in Barcelona and Dubai.
